SoGeo powers TransWorld’s Skate and BMX apps

We’ve been busy making sure that skaters and BMXers will enjoy the new TransWorld SKATEboarding and RideBMX spots directory and apps.

The apps are designed to help users identify new skateboarding and riding spots, create and share spots with their community, and upload photos and videos associated with those spots. Spots also include stores and retailers.

The apps include a list view, map view and AR view. Here are some screenshots to give you an idea of what they look like.

The apps are compatible with the iPhone, iTouch, iPad and all Android devices. They are now available for free in iTunes and the Android Marketplace.

For more details, you can also have a look at TransWorld’s press release.

Update from The Lab

Hello all. I’m Bora. One of SoGeo’s new transfers from the US. I moved to Amsterdam from New York City to run the SoGeo product development and I’m loving it here.

We’ve been working on a lot of interesting things in the past two months and it’s about time we talk to the world maybe not yet about what we’re working on but how we work.

Our team is small. We like it that way. We work in one open room and eat lunch together every day. We have a nice terrace outside so in these beautiful summer months, it’s yet another way to enjoy the great city of Amsterdam.

What we’ve been up to

We are long overdue for an update. While in the midst of developing our core technology platform we will also shortly have our main product ready for release. In the meantime we have been working on some pretty cool things, of which two are up and running. Both projects that we worked on are great showcases for what’s possible.

We are collaborating with French designers NoDesign.net in creating a very cool wallpaper, which includes marker based AR. The wallpaper is currently part of the FabWall exhibition at the Musée des Arts Decoratifs in Paris.

ARdev camp Amsterdam

Ardev Amsterdam is a day-long event for Augmented Reality experts and novices alike, hosted at Mediamatic Bank in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. SoGeo is happy to be part of this great incentive. Please find below more information on this event taken from the official Wiki.

‘Augmented Reality’ apps link the online and offline worlds, and take a variety of forms. From 3D overlays on mobile phone screens, the creative re-use of paper, (multi-touch) tables and other household objects face and objection recognition - AR techniques can bring the Web into our lives in unexpected ways. But for AR to break through into everyday life and reach its full potential, we need more than innovative user interfaces.

Git branching and merging (The easy guide)

I had a very difficult time today trying to find a very straightforward description of branching and merging in Git. Here is an example of creating a branch, retrieving it and merging it back into master.

Hamburg iPhone Tech Talk - 13 Nov 2009

Moving to Europe to become the mobile application developer for Sogeo Company seemed like a good idea, but was affirmed by Sogeo’s recognition of the plausible benefit of letting their ENTIRE development team travel over 4 hours from Amsterdam to Hamburg for a free iPhone development conference sponsored by Apple.

Most companies would loath the loss of productive development time, and a smaller minority may even recognize the potential of catastrophic loss of their entire intellectual property to the German Autobahn; speed and 4am fatigue do not mix.  However, Sogeo was willing to put all its chips on the table.

As it turns out Sogeo got a huge return on investment.  I personally walked away with 5 bullet points that were simple to implement and greatly improved the quality of our iPhone applications.

We Are Sogeo

Hi, we’re Sogeo Company. We’re developing a location-aware information sharing platform and a suite of mobile and web apps to interface with it.

Our talented and lovely UX designers and programmers and our handsome management team will write here whenever the urge strikes or when we’ve got cool things to share.

A quick overview of the Sogeo team, in order of appearance:

Michiel is the man with the plan. Serial entrepreneur and grand visionary.
Pieter injects some good Dutch common sense into the company. No Pieter, no money.
Arthur has a poster of Bill Lumbergh above his desk.
Travis meta-programs, philosophizes about a new world order and raps in 3 languages. Simultaneously.
Bryan is the silent force of the office. He accepts specs, guides others’ whims and changes and transforms these into kick ass code.
Zoja creates order from emptiness or chaos. In record time. While making the office a better place for all.
